Gherkin is the language used in Behavior Driven Development (BDD). BDD is a process that aims to bring business, developer and tester closer together during the development of innovative systems through the phases discovery, formulation and automation.
Once new features for your application are discovered, you can formulate them in so called Feature files. In JOSF, you can formulate your Feature files and automate them directly.
